Men's Day and why it's not a masculine rights issue

Abigail Pereira Aranha

Hello, my friends and my female enemies! July 15th is Men's Day in Brazil and November 19th is International Men's Day. Militants and sympathizers of the Men's and Boys' Human Rights Movement can show how men are harmed in everything from talking to a woman outside the family to punishment in the legal system, and they can show how it's almost automatic around the world to portray the average man in a derogatory way and the average woman as a goddess and queen. But fighting this is not a matter of gaining rights, at least not as the feminist movement is asking for women.

First, a right cannot be given by the same person or community who receives it. That's why the feminist movement receives rights for women from male legislators, just as the LGBTQIA+ Movement receives rights for non-heterosexuals from straight legislators, or the Black Movement receives rights for blacks in countries outside of Africa. Only dumb conservatives see this with forced contempt for progressives' intelligence. Therefore, men would only need formal rights if women formally dominate the country. Second, a person's set of rights has a benefit greater than the cost of the same person's set of obligations before those from whom he or she receives this right. Otherwise, it happens like it happened in slavery, where some slaves fled, they killed masters or performed abortions so as not to offer new slaves. Third, a right cannot be received from anyone who does not have the resources to make such an offer possible. For a quick example, let's take the case of public services: the population has a loss in the right to a public service if the Public Administration does not have the means to achieve the execution of this service (financial means, inclusive). For example, for a sanitary avenue (an avenue that follows the banks of a watercourse, which passes clean in the middle), we need an engineering project, sewage canalization (following the avenue), construction materials for the canal, paving the avenue, etc. For materials, the Public Administration needs to have the money; machinery and manpower (including engineering manpower), the Public Administration needs to have it itself or to have someone who has and it can hire.

In the first point, we already have a problem for a Men's Human Rights Activism or, as the antipathetics say, a Feminism for men: the conflict within the masculine universe on the issue of rights for men is even worse than that of anti-feminist women against Feminist women, at the same time when men who think that Men's Human Rights are nonsense are more than women who disagree with Feminism since the Second Wave. But I've already explained how Christian Conservatism led us to Feminism as we know it, including with the contribution of traditional men, back in 2015, and they weren't my first texts about it. Here, I would like to draw your attention to the other two points. The second and third points lead to the same question: what your country can offer a good man.

I could already bring this reflection before the CoViD-19 panic-demic, but I will take this case to give a quick illustration of the situation as a whole in almost any country or city in the world. With the exception of the motherland of the Chinese virus, every country in the world had a drop in GDP in 2020. The brutality of police officers to close honest workplaces and to prevent honest people from walking on the streets, all of this that almost all these federal and municipal governments have done in order to bankrupt its own country, and the isolation of people in their homes that produced mental illness and suicide; all of this, if turned into lawsuits, would amount to a sum of cash indemnities plus another sum of costs for products and services (such as medical treatments) that would let the Public Administration even worse than before if it was already in financial difficulty. And that extra cash outflow would come from the part of the bankruptcy that #StayHome failed to achieve, the money that honest workers and companies still managed to pay in taxes. I close here the... viral subject of the moment.

I invert that famous phrase: don't ask what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you. The individual and historical experience of mankind shows that the more a person, an institution or a country spits out rules and obligations, the more mediocre it is and the less it has the capacity to offer something decent. In the case of the female universe, women in general have taken on a goal of making unpleasant or inconceivable a man to think about sex with them even when they are beautiful. I myself even take the opportunity and offer some male friends the difference between a woman and a man, as well as other good moments. For social life, what the country seems to offer as a picture of good moments is a bar table on Friday after work (as long as you don't work on Saturday); or, in other words, a happiness you only have if you are an idiot, alienated and pretender. Thus, the good man, including because of his greatness of mind, is not in a place where he has rights to conquer. He is in a place where he has to overcome the poverty of mind in the environment and to remain single.
