A clergy of dubious ideas and a flu, and the celebration of Holy Week in 2020 in the Vatican was held without an audience.[1] The World Health Organization recommended and the Christian churches were closed in America (the American continent) and Europe because of the Chinese flu. The authorities followed the recommendation and the pastors understood that it was time to fight the Chinese flu. Had it been really that easy?
I don't even put in question whether God exists or whether Jesus Christ was a historical person (no and no). The issue I bring up is that even if what Christianity preaches is legend, churches could live and die less shamefully. And here I assume, as it's said in the Christian milieu, that the church is the community of Christians, not the temples in which they congregate.
Does the wicked world make attacks on the family? And does it need it? #StayHome has increased the number of divorces, the domestic violence[2] and mental health problems in children and adolescents[3]. You from Brazil, did you know cases of the police or the Municipal Guard attending a report of a barbecue or a birthday party in a residence? It's very likely. And a report of domestic worship? And do you remember "homeschooling", which conservative content producers said was the solution to protect children from leftist-Satanist schools? Who is using "homeschooling" now? The official education network itself. And do you remember that one of the objections against "homeschooling" was that it impaired children's sociability? Now we have Christian parents eager for their children to stop attending classes at home via internet and to return to schools, even if it is (the proposals already exist) on alternate days, without recess and with desks in booths 2 meters from each other.
Do you personally know some Christian you respect morally? Christians have already been known for exemplary moral conduct. Today, they are known for oddities and morality for them now is sex phobia. I have already received several attacks from Christians for my licentious life and for my ideas about the man-woman relationship, and the person was deadbeat, was a bad neighbor, was a bad work colleague, had a son arrested for theft... And when the person was a woman, often had a single mother daughter in her teens, or was a single mother herself, or was a married woman who had a child out of wedlock and was hiding it from her husband.
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1Tim 6: 10) But where do we see love of money most? In some evangelical churches. Even if we consider that morality is a lack of sex, "the public debate on moral issues involving issues such as abortion, gender ideology, homosexual union, theological liberalism, family education and others, does not seem to be as important for evangelicals as the concern with finance and health, according to a recently published survey".[4]
I could ask if you personally know some Christian who you respect intellectually, but it would be mean of me. It is not that the answer is "no" if the question is for myself, but this has become easier in the internet age; before, low education and intellectual poverty seemed like doctrine. Well, I'm going to ask you another question. Or rather, two. 1) Have you seen on the internet any conservative person who at least seems to be of a reasonable intellectual level, who speaks your language (I don't even say from your country), in videos or texts about the "fraudemic", about swindles in topics such as Global Warming or about evidence of the truth of the Bible? 2) Have you ever heard a Christian you know in the physical world mentioning that person?
For me, this all signals towards that Christianity was really a creation by Rome in the beginning of the 4th century that could only have won the world in the political-military power and in the plagiarism of the previous empires; or it would have died like the Essenes and the Zealots. But if you prefer not to go into that question, do you imagine this nowadays church in the 1st century abandoning itself to martyrdom so as not to deny Jesus Christ? Ah, do you remember the cell churches and the G12 Vision, how we had people saying that this was the model of the early church, and how we had people proving the opposite? Where are these folks now?
I was in the English section of Vatican News looking for the English equivalent of that news about the celebration of Holy Week without an audience presence; I didn't find it, but I discovered this pearl also dated April 2020[5]:
Obey authorities to rid society of the coronavirus
[Zambia's] Bishop [of Monze Diocese, Moses] Hamungole has urged Christians to cooperate with authorities as they fight the coronavirus pandemic because it is the right thing to do in these challenging times. "Let us all take time to ponder on our personal commitment to uphold the rule of law in our communities. For example, how a choice such as staying at home can make a difference in the lives of many other people, depending on what we choose to do," he said.
He continued, "The issue of the choices that we make can also be applied to the current situation of the coronavirus pandemic. In Zambia and many other countries, governments have given guidelines which must be obeyed. When people flout these rules, they put others at risk. There is the possibility that by not obeying the regulations, other people could end up contracting the disease. Pilate and the Jews made choices that led to Jesus’ death on the Cross. Similarly, those not respecting the COVID-19 mandatory regulations risk perpetuating contagion or even the real possibility of others dying from the disease, because of inconsiderate behaviour," the Bishop said.
We do not know whether Bishop Moses Hamungole says this because he follows instructions from superiors who are subordinates of the Chinese Communist Party or because he ignores the matter to the point of saying that #StayHome is both a rule of law and Christianity. But he lacks the biblical reading of the Old and New Testaments to discover that the prophets and apostles were not known to be politically alienated or to confuse moral integrity or conformity to the Word of God with submission to kings. I do not ask what the Apostles would say in the place of the bishop, but the prophet Elisha, the prophet Amos, John the Baptist or the bishop of Pergamos.
Morally and intellectually, Christianity never deserved to exist. But it doesn't deserve to die like that. The churches of all branches of Christianity were already in decadence in the moral, theological, credibility and social relevance areas, as any serious Christian with some 50 years of faith can tell us. Of course, the churches which at least existed some 50 years ago. I don't even ask for a manifestation of the power of God. But at this time when there is a plot against freedom, against the West and against Christianity itself as we know it, which is the cheat of the Chinese virus, Christian churches show more stupidity, alienation and fear of life.
